As an Engineer 2 you will be responsible for using your technical knowledge of professional concepts to solve business problems.  We are looking for a talented individual that can serve as a subject matter expert in their area of focus and represent their department on complex assignments.  You will be responsible for evaluating elements of technology’s effectiveness through requirements gathering, testing, research and investigation and make recommendations for improvements that result in increased quality and effectiveness.  You will be required to listen to and evaluate customer needs to determine and provide high quality solutions that align with customer expectations. 

As an Engineer 2, Software you will work on Automated Rental Management (ARMS®) web applications that manage rentals for insurance companies, dealerships and fleet companies.  As a key leader within our development team, you will be involved in all aspects of the solution from UI, middle tier and the backend database.  We will rely on your leadership and innovative problem solving and demonstrated software development skills using a variety of Open Source and Enterprise level technologies.  You will be part of a team that is responsible for all phases of an agile-like software development lifecycle.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Individual contributor, performing both application design and coding
  • Consistently analyzing, translating, re-factoring, and coding software applications according to specifications provided by our Software Architects
  • Assisting in trouble shooting and resolving complex software application problems within our SOA environment
  • Developing and maintaining automated unit tests that improves software quality
  • Participating in design and code reviews
  • Coaching and mentoring less experienced engineers
  • Reviewing, analyzing and implementing business requirements on assigned projects
  • Defining, developing, communicating and implementing standards, processes and procedures for the department
  • Identifing issues and escalating risks to project leadership, as necessary
  • Analyzing and reviewing software requirements to determine feasibility of a design within time and cost restraints
  • Using system traces and debugging tools for problem determination and system tuning 
  • Maintaining documentation on application modifications and updates 
  • Leading migration of applications to quality assurance and/or production environment 
  • Maintaining established service level agreements to meet customer expectations and quality standards
  • Participating in support activities and on-call rotation 
  • Participating in IT security and compliance remediation activities



  • Must be presently authorized to work in the U.S. without a requirement for work authorization sponsorship by our company for this position now or in the future
  • Must have 3+ years of Java development experience
  • Must have 2+ years of experience using frameworks such as Spring and Hibernate
  • Must have 2+ years of experience creating and implementing SQL
  • Must possess a strong understanding of OO design principles and patterns
  • Experience in web page development with HTML, CSS, JQuery, Java Script
  • Must have proven experience with Microsoft Office desktop applications software
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have excellent time management and prioritization skills
  • Must possess initiative, results-oriented drive and a solid work ethic requiring minimal direction
  • Must be flexible in the face of changing priorities and requirements
  • Must be committed to incorporating security into all decisions and daily job responsibilities


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, or related field preferred
  • Experience with Struts framework
  • Experience in Agile methodology and JIRA
  • Experience in SOA
  • Experience in Weblogic and Tomcat
  • Experience in Unix operating systems
  • Must have 1+ years of experience with Web Services
  • Must possess leadership skills in a team environment
